The Maxim Gorki was built in Germany in 1969. It was initially called the Hamburg and was owned by German Atlantic Line. In 1973, it was renamed Hanseatic. However, due to the oil crisis the ship stopped operating. A year later, in 1974 it was sold to the Black Sea Steamship Company, where it was named Maxim Gorky. Since the end of the Cold War she now sails for Phoenix Seereisen. Maxim Gorky is 24,981 tons. 638.8 feet long 87.3 feet wide with a 27 foot draft and it is powered by steam turbines.
