Famous musician, producer and artist Brian Eno is exhibiting his latest art installation LUMINOUS, by painting with light using Sydney Opera House sail roofs as his canvas. Brian projected “77 million paintings” with intention to will encourage artists to tackle global warming

Vivid Sydney is a new international festival of light and music, created with intention to showcase Sydney as a creative hub of Asia-Pacific region. The organizers, Events NSW and City Of Sydney, are hoping for a spectacular transformation of the city, when it is used as a canvas for art. The festival centers on The Rocks, Circular Quay and Opera House.

Last night when I photographed Brian Eno’s art lighting up the Opera House there were thousands of people there with their cameras and tripods taking vantage points around Circular Quay for the best possible angle. They were waiting patiently for the each iteration of light and colours of Brian’s creativity. I took photograph of nine different themes, moving along the foreshores of the Sydney Harbour.

I think the sizable attendance shows that Sydneysiders like big events, especially, when these are geared towards public access, rather than controlled “in-house” exhibitions. The spectacular show Brian unleashed upon the sails of the Sydney Opera House certainly has a WOW factor. It is the new age acknowledgment of success when a performance is being photographed and filmed on every mobile phone and digital camera instead of traditional applause. And LUMINOUS in this aspect has certainly lived up to high expectations.

Thank you Brian Eno for making Sydney more interesting and exposing the public to your art.
