Jacaranda bloom and St Andrew’s Cathedral

I had some quick sushi for lunch today next to the Town Hall. As always looking around trying to spot interesting people. What drew my attention however, was not people but a beautifully blooming Jacaranda tree with St Andrew’s Cathedral in the background. I focused closely in order to eliminate all the surrounding buildings and people and just to emphasise how pretty this scene was.

Breakfast for one

Breakfast for one

Breakfast for one

It’s a sleepy morning at Terrigal. Usual crowd of sport and fitness fanatics is nowhere to be found. It must be either too early or too cold for them. In fact there are very few people all around. Couple of joggers and and couples on their holidays are taking walks along the sandy beach.

An older man with coffee cup is reading a newspaper at the aluminium table. He is soaked in rising sun as is the magnificent tree behind him.

Araucaria trees at Terrigal

Araucaria trees at Terrigal

I have visited Terrigal this morning for a commercial appointment. While I was waiting for my client I took few casual photographs. Here is one of them: simple shot of Araucaria trees. These trees always fascinate me by their shapes, textures and colours. I think I often would associate Australian city beaches with Araucaria trees rather then sand.

Blooming Aussie native tree

Blooming Aussie native tree

Blooming Aussie native tree

This tree is blooming currently in abundance across Sydney. It’s delicate and voluminous flower structure reminds me of Belgian lace - intricate and beautiful.

I hope someone can point me to a proper name for the tree.

Tree and the storm clouds

Tree and storm clouds MG_2436

Tree and storm clouds MG_2436

It has been a long time since I have converted any photograph to black and white. I usually use black and white conversions for portraits but in this case the perfect candidate was a tree against dark, stormy clouds shot into the raising sun exposure bracketed landscape. The bracketing of +/-2EV allowed the very dramatic clouds to retain their texture and shades and prevented bright morning sun from rendering most of this photograph with clipped white background around the tree.

I have also decided to add old fashioned grain to the photograph the further enhance the clouds mass.

Now, take your eyes away from the tree and look at the shapes created by the clouds at the centre of the photo. There is a human skull there. to its right there is a head of bird of pray as is one above it to the right and above to the left there is another looking straight at you.

Dead tree reaching our to the sky

Dead Tree Reaching Out To The Sky MG_2349

Dead Tree Reaching Out To The Sky MG_2349

This photograph of a dead tree was taken from George’s Head, which is situated in the suburb of Balmoral on Middle Head in Sydney Harbour. There is a whole number of these trees, they seem to be older then underlaying bushland, and they form quite eery looking mini forest. Their branches reach way above all other growth as if they were asking the sky for another chance of life.

The undergrowth here is very dense and the trees are on a very steep side of the bush. This particular tree was easy to reach as it was very close to the entry to the park. I don’t think I’d dare to get closer to the other ones.
