Shark’s egg
My son, Sebastian, has found shark’s egg. They are very oddly shaped, looking like a very big twisted macaroni. This photograph has been taken at Pearl Beach late at night using Tokina 12-24 f/4 lens and Canon 580EX Speedlite.

This is an actual photograph, not a digital creation or composite image. For these interested in technique the trick here is a long exposure of 1/2 second with flash synchronised to second curtain. This means the whole view is exposed for the whole 1/2 second but the flash only fires as the exposure is being completed giving a ghostly appearance to the kid on the swing. The aperture controls how well exposed the elements will be and how much movement in lapsed time will be captured.
Photo created using Canon 30D, Tokina 12-24 F/4 lens and Canon 580EX Speedlite in E-TTL II mode.
Following my recent photos from Carala Zampatti’s collection and very critical appraisal of the photos from that show I have decided to use a very different approach to this shoot.
I’ve used Tokina 12-24 f/4 (at 24mm) for full length shots and Canon 50mm f/1.4 for half length shots. There are twelve pairs in the album. Here is one of them:
To clarify: this was done at Sydney Motor Show. Questionable lighting and busy background were the order of the day. I’ve used white Stofen on my 580EX (FEC -2/3) but I could not use ceiling bounce - too high and ceiling was dark. All shots were done in manual mode, hand held at 1/80s. f4 for 24mm and f4.5 for 50mm.
