Water Monitor MG_5600

We had a picnic today at Somersby Falls. This is a beautiful place and we always enjoy our time there. The bush walks there are fantastic and there is plenty to see or simply to relax. The ever daring bush turkeys are everywhere and seem to be bolder every visit. Today we had a surprise visitor - a large four to five foot long water monitor. I knew they are around but usually they are found much deeper in the bush and I have never seen one at the picnic area. The bush turkeys tried to scare it away as they consider the area their turf. They drove high up the tree - perfect position to take few photographs.

Somerby Falls - after a rain

Somerby Falls - after a rain - 6

Somerby Falls - after a rain - 6

This Wednesday we had over 120mm of rain overnight. I went to visit Somersby falls in the morning to see the effect the rain would have on the otherwise very placid picnic area. I did expect a lot more water but nowhere near as much it proved to be. The fall was alive with huge volumes of brown water gashing through the stones. Usually you can walk right to the main face of the fall, that would be very dangerous on the day. I have added few new photographs to the Somersby gallery. Explore and enjoy.

Tree Face

This photographs was taken at Somersby Falls. I have visited this place many times before. It is close by and we often go there simply for a picnic or a walk. It is very green, beautiful place. As exit the car park and walk towards the falls you pass a number of quite big eucalyptus trees. I consider myself an observant person yet it was only today when I noticed the tree with a human face.
