I was passing this man in the Martin Place. He noticed my camera and said: “Sir, I hope you are not talking photos of me!”. Naturally I raised my camera and photographed his smiling face in a single move. I had no intention of keeping the photograph. I knew it probably was badly blurred due to motion and I did not expect it to be in focus. I kept on going as the man’s intention was simply to engage me in a conversation which led to some marketing.
When I uploaded all my street photographs from today’s walk I have noticed this man’s photo turned out to be quite a catch as his smiling and blurred face is nicely complemented by a smiling woman from a poster behind him. Definitely a keeper.
This was an interesting situation. I have spotted this couple having a conversation in Pitt Street Mall and I thought they looked interesting. The moment I put my camera to my eyes the man became immediately aware I am going to photograph them. Usually this spoils the shot but to my surprise he did not turn away or question my action, instead he posed with a nice smile.
On a quite cold and grey day this brightly clad in orange costume girl certainly brought a smile. She was very enthusiastic about the photo opportunity. How could I refuse a snap?
On the other side of George Street, almost directly opposite the Town Hall a guitarist busker sets up show almost everyday this week. I’m yet to take a good photograph of him but he poses every time I point my lens at him. So, it is a task for another time. He plays semi-classical guitar pieces with strong Spanish undertones. It is an interesting place he selected to play at. It is a busy walkway, a bus stop near by and long set of steps leading to an office tower thus he always has an audience – willing or otherwise.
Today, at the bus stop there was this old man in a cowboy hat. He had an interesting face and I wanted to take his photograph. He seemed quite distant, uninterested and expressionless but when the music stopped a big smile appeared on his face and he clapped his hands loudly in an obvious appreciation for the music. Snap.
