Watchful eyes
This couple of private security guards were watching very carefully the crowd passing by. Smartly dressed in their suits they looked as any business man in the city. Only the ear piece with the familiar spiral cable and their behaviour gave away their profession.

World Youth Day Sydney 2008 - Security
Although the celebrations of the World Youth Day Sydney 2008 do not commence until tomorrow, there were considerable numbers of pilgrims roaming through Sydney today. Most of them came for a parade of the cross and icon along the Pitt Street.
Security was not necessary but as you can see from this photograph of a group of police officers the precautions were taken - just in case. Most people in Sydney went about their daily business. Let’s hope the remaining days of this event are as peaceful and that police won’t have to use the special powers granted to them by the state government.

In the name of security MG_2239
This photograph through a rain soaked fence is a small token symbol of our urban environment changing in front of our eyes. In the name of security improvements we see fencing like that erected around public / government property, decorated with razor sharp barb wire. I am not sure if there is a balance between perceived threat and security measures applied. This may not hold true everywhere but here in Australia I feel safe and consider such measures an overkill that will turn into long lasting eye sore.

Burnt Honda at train station carpark
A very chilling sight has welcomed the commuters at my train station this morning: a burnt Honda at train station car park. Someone will return from work to see their car torched. This sight brings unease to all the people who leave their cars there daily and that means more than 100 people. This is vandalism at its worse and I certainly hope all the security cameras installed there captured the event and will help in identifying the offenders.
