Pink rain clouds

Pink rain clouds

This photograph represents one of the strangest skies I have seen in a long time. With heavy, rain clouds on the horizon and the sun shining through a cloud “hole” at the sunset the clouds and the rain were turned a tone of pink.

Broken Umbrella

Broken umbrella

This broken umbrella is perhaps not a common sight but the weather forecast is telling us we have another two weeks of continuous rainy day ahead of us.

Wait for me

Wait for me

Wait for me

I have noticed this Asian couple just few minutes before I took this photograph. It was hard not to notice the tall girl in her bright orange dress and pearl white skin. After all this is autumn and most people wear subdued dark coloured clothing.

As they were approaching Town Hall building the man seemed to forget his partner and rushed a bit ahead thus leaving her exposed to the rain. She obviously was not impressed.

They both had biggest laugh when I have shown them the photograph. It is good to come across people who despite the lousy weather can find humour in their own situation.

Wet, empty benches

Wet, empty benches

Wet, empty benches

After the driest May on record with only 1mm of rain Sydney has enjoyed finally some rain with first days of June. City parks, which are usually buzzing with activity during lunchtime, were totally deserted. These wet, empty benches will have to wait for some sun before the usual crowd returns. Everyone resorted to indoor venues for their lunches. The bureau of meteorology is forecasting very heavy rain for next two weeks.

Rain Cloud

Rain Cloud

Often when a photograph of a sunset or sunrise is posted the only reaction the photographer gets is “Oh, OK. Yet another sun rise”. From time to time weather phenomenons change that simple yet beautiful sunset or sunrise into something totally unique. Take this cloud formation which looks as if it had a clearly defined straight edge and the rain would pour over that edge. I have never seen a cloud formed like that. Not only was the rain coming from that edge but also behind it there was a beautiful sunset highlighting layers upon layers of Blue Mountains in the distance.

Jeremy - photographer - In the rain with Nikon

Today I’ve met a very cool fellow street shooter by the name of Jeremy. We stood on the opposite sides of George Street aiming for some people shots during a torrential rain that swept through Sydney around midday.

While Jeremy was aiming for people with umbrellas I found one with ease - him. These Nikon guys certainly have an advantage. Just look how cool his umbrella is.

Thanks Jeremy - you’ve been a good sport.

Trapped Rain Drops

Trapped water droplets

Trapped water droplets

It is absolutely bracketing at the moment. Pretty poor performance by mother nature on Australia’s first day of summer. My dogs destroyed an insect screen and I’ve left it overnight on the balcony only to notice the dense grid in the screen has trapped some rain drops.
