Reading a letter
This simple photograph of an Asian girl reading a letter on a bench is all about using a reflective light. The photo was taken into the light but because the letter reflected a lot of light onto the girl’s face it provided for a very dramatic street portrait.

Leisel Jones MG_4959
I have met Leisel Jones recently at the Australian Motor Show in Sydney. Leisel is sponsored by Hyundai and was fulfilling her promotional duties. She was a very obliging host signing hundreds of autographs.
Motor show crowds however are fickle and 30 minutes later Lisel was quite on her own, while the crowd gathered somewhere else. I have asked Leisel to pose for few photographs. Nothing out of ordinary - all with a car, as after all this was Motor show photo reportage.

Chris
In a start departure from my usual preference for unposed photographs I have asked this young men if I could photograph him. His name is Chris. There was no easy way of capturing his portrait without him knowing it. Luckily Chris was very quick and when I asked him to continue looking where he was without looking into camera he obliged. I think the resulting photograph has a strong, unique 3d effect.

Martin Place Florist
Here is a man who seems to have passion for his job. He is the florist from the Martin Place. Whenever I pass this stall I can see him arranging flowers and he always seems to be very absorbed in the task.

Girl’s blue day
This girl had a peculiar blue dye in her hair. It seemed to glow in the midday sun. The smile on this girl’s face tells me she did not feel that “blue”.

All important phone call
There are a number of places I have noticed some time ago as potentially good spots for portrait style photography with fairly dramatic light. One of them is the corner of Martin Place and Pitt Street. However, the place is very rarely “occupied”. There are a lot of pedestrians around but none in the open sections of the Post Office building.
Today I was in luck. This man was positioned perfectly of centre and with his face in the light. He also had an interesting face. As you can see from the eye contact he has seen me taking his photograph and yet he did not turn around or change his pose. I hope his all important phone call brought good news.
