Underwear Police

Underwear Police

Yes, Sydney has underwear police conducting a blitz and it’s gotta be Bonds. In a clever and somehow entertaining marketing ploy Bonds are running a promotion for their underwear for men. I wonder if this watchful lady cop saw the brand of my underwear from afar. She has an approving smile … it must have been Bonds.

World Youth Day Sydney 2008 - Security

Although the celebrations of the World Youth Day Sydney 2008 do not commence until tomorrow, there were considerable numbers of pilgrims roaming through Sydney today. Most of them came for a parade of the cross and icon along the Pitt Street.

Security was not necessary but as you can see from this photograph of a group of police officers the precautions were taken - just in case. Most people in Sydney went about their daily business. Let’s hope the remaining days of this event are as peaceful and that police won’t have to use the special powers granted to them by the state government.

Child’s play

Child's play

Child’s play

Children photography is under intense scrutiny from the public and law makers in Australia. A well known photographer Bill Henson is being investigated over his nude photography of adolescent children. Police has confiscated many of his works from a number of galleries.

My understating is none of the photos contained sexual scenes and thus, I am a bit puzzled why the word pornography is used to describe them. Everyone from a suburban house wife, who has never been to art gallery to Prime Minister of Australia, who expresses views as if he never visited a gallery either, seem to have only negative comments on Bill Henson’s photographs.

What next, in this politically correct word? Will the mob take to hammers and smash down all statues of naked people (statue of David anyone?) and erase the endless number of naked bodies from classic paintings starting perhaps with Sistine Chapel?

I hope before this happens you will have time to enjoy this playful child chasing after a colourful bubble under a watchful eye of his mum.

Australia Day 2008 - Police Woman

Australia Day 2008 - Gorgeous Police Woman MG_4437-1

Mounted police were present at the celebrations of Australia Day 2008 at Darling Harbour. The unit drew attention not because of the protection they provided but because the kids loved the horses and photographers (and most male participants) liked the gorgeous women the NSW police selected to represent them on the day.

I was lucky enough to draw attention of one of the friendly mounted police woman. Did I say they were pretty - this girl could become a photographic model any time?

I have captured a lot of scenes big and small from this year’s celebrations. Visit my Australia Day photographic gallery here to see the remaining photographs.

Prayer

Prayer

Prayer

The motives of this person were not 100% clear to me. As you may know I have posted some photographs on my website from a very controversial anti-war protest. The police have held the distance from the protesters as they were very well organised and very well behaved.
For some reason this person have ventured away from the protest and started to pray publicly just as you can see in the photograph.

Since he prays closely to the West I am told this can be simply his midday prayer. It just looked dramatic no matter what the motives.
