I have added a new gallery to the site: Pitt Stop fashion show. The gallery shows off models and garments presented last night in Pitt Street Mall fashion parade. The show was a big success with the spectators featuring attractive garments, models and music.

This Sunday 18th of March was the Sydney Harbour Bridge 75th anniversary. The day was celebrated by closure of the bridge to general traffic and allowing hundreds of thousands of people to take a walk across the bridge from North Sydney into the city. There were a lot of events both on water and in the air showing a spectrum of historical vessels and aircraft from 1920s to today. At night the organisers have created a visual spectacle by directing strong colour light beams underneath the bridge structure highlighting its engineering elements. You can see more photographs from the day in the Sydney Harbour Bridge 75th Anniversary gallery.

Young man asleep on stairs

Many of my street photographs show homeless people in Sydney in various situations. However, this young man is not homeless. He is fast asleep courtesy of over indulgence the night before. He was in such deep sleep he almost did not show any vital signs and I had to check he was OK (which he was).

News stand at night

In traditional film based photography once you’ve loaded the film into the camera you were stuck with all the parameters of that film until the roll was filled with photographs. This meant that if you had a day film (ISO 100 or 200) your night shots required long exposure time or use of flash, which sometimes is not desired at all.

With the emergence of digital photography we can now vary the sensitivity for each frame. This photographs for example of a Asian man in his news stand taken at Sydney Circular Quay was taken at ISO 800. This allowed for quite brisk exposure time and no need for flash. Canon’s sensors (in my case Canon EOS 30D) in particular have a very clean high ISO results and there is no visible noise in the photograph at this setting.
