I write a lot of letters. Having friends all over the world means e-mail is an easy way for us to communicate. I guess most people have almost forgotten what it is like to use old fashioned postal letters. You know the one hand written on white paper, in nice envelope and a colourful stamp. The one the other person will wait for a week or two to receive if they live somewhere in Europe or USA. And yet some people still do write letter like that. This older lady is one of them. She was sitting on a bench in Sydney’s Martin place and was writing a letter.

When was the last time you wrote a letter with a pen?

Sometimes I come across some really unusual scenarios. Take for example these two girls leading a zebra through the Martin Place. It was obvious they were half embarrassed and half amused by all the attention they were getting from the people.

I wanted to know why the zebra was being led its backside first. Apparently zebras, even fake ones are very stubborn and there was no other way to get it to the destination.

Here is a couple of people walking through Martin Place. They are looking at the same thing and yet their reaction to whatever they are looking at is so vastly different.

This autumn has been particularly mild. The evenings are starting to be chilly but the days have given us a very pleasant 22plus degrees. The nice weather allows for time in the sun during lunches in Sydney CBD. This man sleeping in the warn sun rays in the Martin Place is a perfect example of how nice the weather is.

Hush for homeless

Mission Australia has recently conducted an awareness campaign called “Hush for homeless” with a motto “Say nothing and do something for homeless Australians”.

This is a very noble undertaking and Mission Australia has a long track record of helping these in need. However, on this occasion I felt the approach was oxymoronic. In Martin Place a large contingent of people wearing the campaign T-shirts were giving a loud performance, singing and feeling very good about themselves while a homeless man sat 5 meters from the stage totally ignored by the do-gooders. Hush!

Correction: As you can see from the comments below I have received an email from Patrick F. of Mission Australia reassuring me that the man was offered help by Mission Australia staff. Thanks Patrick. Good to know that my observation was just temporary.
