My wife and I took a long walk along the beach in the Arakwal National Park just south of Byron Bay. The beach spans close to 8km and I think our walk covered about 5 of them. Unlike the main Byron Beach were tourists flock in their hundreds the Arakwal was strangely empty, despite numerous adjoining caravan parks.
Somewhere along the water line I have spotted this little jewel. A sand crab created a love heart out of the sand balls as it was digging its hole. As if the shape of this creation was not enough a beach pebble adorned the shape creating an illusion of predetermined design. It was a charming find.
Recently, one of the daily papers run a poll on the subject of the “public display of affection“. Interestingly it was not if manifestation of affection in public was appropriate but if it was only reserved for celebrities. Oh, please.
I see expressions of love all over the streets of Sydney. A kiss here or there, a hug, holding hands and often these glowing love eyes. It is perfectly normal and common. It has nothing to do with what your society status is or if you are celebrity or not. Just look at the young couple in this photograph. The young man carried his cheeky girlfriend through a whole city block. She seemed to be ecstatic and certainly joyful.
In the recently released movie “The day the Earth stood still” there is a line uttered by the alien, played by Keanu Reeves, in the reference to humanity: “there is another side to you , I can see that now”. This provoking statement like a deja vu occurred to me when I noticed Doug and Phoebe. Initially I have spotted Dough with his impressive piercings and gauged ear. I was ready to approach him and ask for a “character” pose. However, before I gathered the courage he was joined by Phoebe and they have exchanged a number of moving hugs in obviously sensual moments. “There is another side to you , I can see that now”. When I approached them I knew exactly what I wanted the photograph to convey. They have agreed to the idea very quickly and second later this photograph was created.
Thanks Phoebe and Doug, you’ve been most accommodating models.
