Today was a beautiful autumn day, but I wonder if these are the last autumn leaves I will photograph this year. Weather Bureau is forecasting severe weather conditions for tonight with strong gale winds and heavy rain fall. The very few deciduous trees, which still have these beautifully colored leaves will probably be just a bunch of naked branches by tomorrow morning.

Monday morning update: the low pressure front, which was located South East of Sydney luckily did not have the impact we were warned against.

Classical autumn colours ranging from deep, vivid yellows to Burgundy red are typical for this time of the year photography. Combined with textures of leaves and exposed trunks of trees they offer a varied palette of photographic opportunities.

Together with my son we went to Centennial Park to take some photographs. The weather was rather questionable with showers and rather cloudy sky, but from time to time there was enough sunlight to get quite decent photographs. Centennial Park in autumn is very picturesque. It also very busy, with lots of people coming here for picnic, run or to cycle. We have settled for a walk trying to fond interesting and colourful scenes to photograph.

I have found a nice setting with trees and leaves, which I thought would make a nice landscape. However, no matter how long we waited there was someone always in the frame. So, I have switched my tactic and incorporated the people into the photograph. The lonely man sitting on a park bench and a young redhead in background catching some warmth from the sun nicely complemented this autumn scene.

Rain

Rain drops on a leaf

Christmas and New Year were marked by very wet weather in Australia. Uncharacteristic low temperatures and rain causing floods in many areas of the country. It seems as there is no middle ground and the weather takes us from the drought of the century to floods in no time. While some rain is more than welcome, floods are certainly not.

There is a native bush about 6 feet tall in front of our house. This morning its entire foliage looked like the leaf in the photograph – heavily covered with water. There must be something special about its leaves as other bushes did not seem to retain the rain drops from the night.
