All in the name of security

This photograph through a rain soaked fence is a small token symbol of our urban environment changing in front of our eyes. In the name of security improvements we see fencing like that erected around public / government property, decorated with razor sharp barb wire. I am not sure if there is a balance between perceived threat and security measures applied. This may not hold true everywhere but here in Australia I feel safe and consider such measures an overkill that will turn into long lasting eye sore.

Fortress Sydney

Fortress Sydney

Fortress Sydney

This is how the Sydney’s exclusion zone for APEC looks like. 2.8m high fence spanning 5km marks the border between the Sydney and World leaders. Erected for security reasons it inconveniences thousands and is a real eyesore. I doubt any one in Sydney would like to present this beautiful city to the world leaders in such light. I understand the security concerns. However, I think the government went over board on this occasion.

I have to add this photo was taken with permission from police, as not all photographs are welcome by the security forces.

Spider web on a fence

Spider web on a fence

This morning I have taken a number of photos at a fence dividing the local football field and a farm. It was still very early in the morning and the sun only started to shine through the bush, which creates the eastern wall for both these properties. It was wet thus the warming air temperature created quite a bit of localised fog spreading gently through the meadows.

Morning Fog

I have managed to capture the fog, and even the evaporation of water from the fence itself. A gem find was this, still wet, spider web. I invite you cordially to visit this mini gallery dedicated to a simple fence.
