Winter magic festival is an annual event held at Katoomba to celebrate winter solstice. It is one big cultural event attracting people of all sorts. Dressing up is big on the agenda and thus it is a photographer’s paradise. There are bands, dancers, drummers, lots of firemen and representatives of almost all alternative lifestyles you can think of.
I often use my Canon 580EX flash to fill in scenes like this, where strong sun generates deep shadows and it is impossible to actually view faces or details. This time the silhouettes of the people against this old building were very interesting on their own and thus I decided to take this photograph without the flash.
If you are frequent visitor to my photo web site it will be no surprise to you to see another photograph of a beautiful girl. This gorgeous Asian young lady was walking down Pitt Street, raising more than casual interest amongst both men and women. She literally stopped the traffic. And while others observed her from the distance with various expressions on their faces like the pictured group of young man I simply asked her for a photo. She politely obliged me but would not take her sunglasses off.
This may not be the best photograph from technical point of view as it was taken in poor light and thus using high ISO but I really liked the expression on the faces of these Asian sailors.
