A portrait of a single man in a vast space of concrete pavers with remote silhouettes of people dropped by afternoon shadows. The man is strange, he always sits there. Looks neglected – perhaps homeless but there is something more to him being alone. His gaze is unpleasant, perhaps even scary. He sits there day after day watching people rush to the Central station after work. People avoid him, passing the place from a distance.

There was something surreal about this old Chinese musician playing a traditional instrument in front of the Sydney Fashion Festival tent. So close in distance and so distant in the cultural heritage. The was piece of paper you see at his feet is sheet music.

The concept of showing the view from someone else’s perspective has been in my head for a long time. However, realising it in street photography is very difficult. Today I was in luck. This young man was having a good look around. His sight seem to focus on office buildings in a distance. This allowed me to focus on his glasses and the view in them.

Most of my photos from Sydney streets are captured during lunchtime. Today however I stayed back at work a couple of hours. Leaving just before the sunset I’ve noticed this interesting play of light and shadows created by scaffolding posts. To complete the picture there was a woman walking in the distance with her hair contours highlighted by the sun.
