Girl Knitting

This young girl in the beret was knitting something in Hyde Park during lunchtime.

I associate knitting with something my grandmother did. As a child I had countless sweaters and winter scarf knitted by her. Usually in a mix of blue and white threads.

These days knitting is a not an activity one sees often. Sometimes there will be a lady on try train ustilising the time to knit something up. It is a skill that no longer saves money as the cheap imports from developing countries undercut the need of making garments yourself. And yet, I hope that many kids in generations to come will have nice memories as I have of a sweater knitted by their close ones.

The mint

The mint museum

The mint museum

Built between 1811 and 1816 as the southern end of the Sydney Hospital it became a mint in 1854 when gold was discovered in New South Wales. It was the first Royal Mint outside of England. It operated as mint until 1926.

Today it is an interesting museum and the building itself is part of Historic Trust.
