Pavement Painter
Painstakingly, stroke by stroke this pavement artist recreates another classic master piece. If you watch him for a while you will realise very quickly there is very little progress as each stroke is so precise and delicate. The entire creation takes weeks to complete. The skill is undeniable and well appreciated by passers by.

Australia Day 2008 - Fireworks MG_4556-16
This years fireworks at the Australia Day were one of the most spectacular and colourful I have ever seen. For many this is the pinnacle and reason why they come in their thousands to Sydney’s Darling Harbour. Locals and tourists alike stood there in awe admiring the kaleidoscope of the best pyrotechnic displays in the world. The cacophony of sound and light was simply fantastic.
I have captured a lot of scenes big and small from this year’s celebrations. Visit my Australia Day photographic gallery here to see the remaining photographs.

Australia Day 2008 - Chicken or the Egg MG_4461-3
Darling Harbour usually has a busker or two trying to make living by entertaining crowds. For me the “man of the day” award goes to this “clown” who made a large group of kids and adults laugh with no end. His act was to immerse himself inside a giant red balloon and show his body parts with various dressings - like in this case chicken head. Perhaps he will help to unravel the ages old dilemma “was the chicken or the egg first?”

Australia Day 2008 - Gorgeous Police Woman MG_4437-1
Mounted police were present at the celebrations of Australia Day 2008 at Darling Harbour. The unit drew attention not because of the protection they provided but because the kids loved the horses and photographers (and most male participants) liked the gorgeous women the NSW police selected to represent them on the day.
I was lucky enough to draw attention of one of the friendly mounted police woman. Did I say they were pretty - this girl could become a photographic model any time?

Australia Day 2008 - Aussie Girl MG_4491-8
There are few more vivid symbolic images of this nation during the Australia Day attesting to the anthems words “For we are young and free” then kids in the national colours. The traditional flag transfer on the chick, a flag wrapped around the shoulders and depending on the year another paraphernalia sold by the multitude of stalls.

Instant Sparks
I was walking today through Pitt Street Mall and have noticed two people who I would potentially like to photograph. A young blond in a nice gray suit and a young man wearing a fashionable outfit. What followed was like a scene from a movie. The young man has complimented the young lady as she was passing him with a chivalrous comment. She kept walking but turned her head and over the shoulder replied “Thank You” and kept walking. She took another few steps, stopped smiled to herself and returned to the young man who could not believe his luck. As you can see they seemed to strike and instant conversation, not taking their eyes of each other.
At the moment I wish I had a video camera instead. I rushed the photo a bit but I still think it reflects the situation well. So remember gentlemen, a nice and kind word may get you that mobile number of the gorgeous stranger.

Body Adornment
This photograph, rendered in black and white has been selected by South Australian Museum for their Body Adornment exhibition.
I have taken this photograph in February 2007 and first published it under the title “Trends“. Once more I would like to thank the young man in the photograph for allowing me to take his portrait and being such a cool model. He totally ignored the ever so close lens pointed at his face.
