Krysia - Speed skater

Today instead of shooting from outside I’ve ventured on ice and tried to get some very close shots with a 50mm f/1.4 lens. This proved to be a lot more difficult as the corner speed at short distance seems to be even higher then shooting with a telephoto lens from outside the rink.

My best shot of the night would be this one of pocket-rocket and future speed skating star Krysia. This eve smiling girl really means business when she skates and you can see the raw energy in her dynamic movements.

Andrew McNee - Speed Skater - Winter Olympian

This weekend I have had the pleasure of meeting a double Winter Olympian, speed skater Andrew McNee. Nicest bloke anyone could meet and an excellent sportsman. I have never seen speed skaters “live” before and was amazed at the actual speed they cover the distance on the ice and g-forces generated to keep them at extreme angles into the corners. It’s very impressive.
